How Someone Else Can Apply for ETIAS on Your Behalf

When the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) starts, visa-exempt travellers will need to hold a valid authorisation before heading to most European countries. Although the online application is designed to be quick and straightforward, you will not be obliged to fill it in yourself. A travel agent, a friend or a family member will be able to complete and submit it on your behalf.

That flexibility is helpful for travellers who are less comfortable online, for families managing several trips at once, or for anyone relying on a tour operator. It also introduces a few responsibilities, because an ETIAS application asks for genuinely sensitive personal data.

Choose an intermediary you trust

Applying for ETIAS means handing over information such as your passport details, home address and phone number. Because that data is valuable to fraudsters, the single most important step is to choose your representative carefully. A reputable travel agent or a close relative is a safe choice; an unsolicited offer from an unknown website is not. Treat any service that pressures you or asks for more than the application strictly needs with caution.

Sign a formal declaration of representation

When somebody applies for you, both of you will need to sign a formal declaration of representation. The document, which will be available on the official ETIAS website, is written proof that you have authorised that person to complete and submit the application for you, or on behalf of a minor for whom you have parental authority or legal guardianship. If you are travelling as a group, keep in mind that every member needs their own separate declaration.

Watch out for excessive service fees

Any intermediary has to use the official ETIAS website or mobile app, and the authorisation itself costs EUR 20 per application. Commercial services are allowed to charge an extra amount for their assistance, but you should always check that this additional fee is reasonable and clearly explained before you agree to it. If you would rather handle everything yourself, you can review the official ETIAS application steps and file your own request directly.

Letting someone else apply does not change your obligations as the traveller: the information must be accurate, and you remain responsible for the application made in your name. Choosing a trusted representative, signing the declaration and keeping fees in check are the three simple habits that keep the process safe.
